Privacy Policy

NightProof is a privacy-first Android application for recording night-time sounds (snoring, dog barks, ambient noise). This policy describes what data the app handles. Short version: nothing leaves your device.

Data we collect

None. NightProof does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on any server. The application does not request the INTERNET permission, which means it is technically unable to make network requests.

Data stored on your device

All data created by the app stays in the application's private storage on your device:

• Audio recordings (WAV / AAC / Opus clips of detected events)
• Event metadata (timestamps, peak dB, duration, manual labels)
• App settings (selected profile, theme, language preference)

These files are stored in the app's private directory (filesDir) and are not accessible to other applications. They are automatically deleted when you uninstall NightProof.

Permissions

• RECORD_AUDIO — required to record night-time sounds. Audio is processed and saved locally only.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS — to show the persistent recording notification.
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MICROPHONE — to keep recording active when the screen is off.
• WAKE_LOCK — to prevent the device from suspending the recording process during long sessions.
• REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS — to allow uninterrupted recording for 8+ hours overnight.

NightProof does not request INTERNET,ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, location, contacts, calendar, or any account-related permissions.

Third parties

NightProof does not include any third-party SDK that collects user data: no Firebase Analytics, no Crashlytics, no advertising SDKs, no tracking pixels, no telemetry of any kind.

The audio classifier (YAMNet, by Google) runs entirely on-device via MediaPipe. No audio is sent to Google or any other server for classification.

Subscriptions and payments

NightProof offers an optional yearly subscription via Google Play Billing. When you choose to subscribe, the payment is handled entirely by Google Play; we do not receive your payment details. We only receive an anonymous purchase token from Google Play to verify your subscription is active.

Cloud backup

Android may automatically back up the app's preferences (settings, language, trial timestamp) to your Google Drive backup, if enabled at the operating-system level. This backup is managed by Android itself, tied to your Google Account, and is not accessed by NightProof or by us. You can disable Android Auto Backup at any time in your device settings.

Children

NightProof is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone (and as stated above, we do not collect any data from anyone).

Changes to this policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
